Family Court

In cooperation with Samford University’s Cumberland School of Law, and the Honorable Brian Huff, the Family Court Pilot engages law students who receive 1 hour of academic credit to aid in the administration of the paternity and support docket at the Birmingham courthouse for Family Court.

Although different from other Court Mediation Project programs, Students and volunteers provide a valuable facilitation service when they assist in developing information from the litigants so the Court can effectuate proper service of process and more completely and accurately prepare orders for paternity testing and support.  Students also learn to work with the Alabama Department of Human Resources and court officials to streamline the Friday morning paternity and support dockets.
